Dear Colleagues,
This letter is to inform you of the Advanced Practice Council of West Virginia (WVNA). We are pleased to update you in this growing professional group exclusively formed to represent the professional needs and protect the professional practices of Advanced Practices Nurses in West Virginia. We are working hard to represent all West Virginia Advanced Practice Nurses and need your involvement and membership. As an APN, you have already proven yourself a leader in nursing. Please take the next step in furthering your profession and advocating for your patients. Advanced Practice Nurses are known for having a strong voice in the health care arena. Your voice will make us even stronger.
The goals of the APN Council are congruent with both the goals of WVNA and ANA. WE are committed to advocating for our patients and our profession. We also continue to educate others, both health care professionals and the general public regarding who we are and what we offer to the health care system. These goals are addressed in a variety of ways. We utilize the media, remain politically active, and promote continued communication of issues facing our profession.
We are currently focused on increasing the statewide membership with local groups to address issues and concerns of APN and open the lines of communication. Local meetings are more frequent and focus on personal areas of concern and education. Followed by, sending a representative to the 4 state wide meeting to address the local concerns at the statewide forum. Our Council has four standing meetings each year. These meetings are held around the state. In the summer, we meet in Flatwoods or (other announced location), fall in Morgantown, winter in Charleston, and spring Huntington. To best ensure representation of APNs around the state we have a board composed of members from the four major regions of the state. Anyone interested in this effort and forming local groups should contact me and I will help to get the information needed to join and sign up membership. Each individual APN can best assure that his/her views, ideas, and issues receive attention is through full participation in the Council or a local group, which is encouraged and welcomed.
In addition to meetings, the APN Council communicates via e-mail. This is a quick and efficient way to communicate any concerns or new developments. If you are not receiving your e-mail, please contact WVNA to have the situation corrected. Also, please remember WVNA has a website at wvnurses.org. I encourage your to utilize this site and forum which allows you to voice questions, concerns, or comments. it is expected that the email communication will be used to spread information among ourselves and not be used to cause adverse reactions from other individuals or groups. Sometimes messages, taken out of context can cause damage to valuable relationships and alliances. Any time you have a question, feel free to ask it.
